Dad finally got a call from Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston where we got a second opinion for his mesothelioma diagnosis. They want him back up there for a second consultation on Tuesday, Sept. 4th. My Dad's final path report came back with two types of cancers in his lung; sarcoma in both lungs, and mesothelioma in the pleura of the lungs. The finding was in the words of the pathologist writing the report, an uncommon and "extraordinary" result. We're assuming that the meeting in Boston is a special arrangement to try and work out how best to treat two types of cancer at once in Dad, as the doctors in Myrtle Beach showed no confidence in being able to offer any suitable treatments for such a situation. Surgery has not been ruled out, but then again, nothing has been ruled in either. My sister has already made the flight arrangements for both my Mom and Dad to get up to Boston next Tuesday, and she will be meeting them up there. Thanks so much, Melissa, for doing all that for Mom and Dad! Here's hoping that the Boston crew will have some more insight into how to handle Dad's case. Will keep you posted on what happens next week, Drew
