I have to say, turning 37 hasn't been all that bad. Well, if you ignore the occassional, ok, the quite regular, "Man, you're freakin' old!" or "Wow, soon you'll be the oldest dude on the block" clever quips. But I guess at my age I should just rejoice regularity. ;)
Finished listening to Colbert's book last week and started getting into Bruce's stuff this past weekend.
First, Colbert's "I am America and So Can You" has got to be one of the funniest pieces of political satire to come along in quite some time. If you can, do yourself a HUGE favor and download it at iTunes by clicking here. His ant and other invertebrate fornication rants almost disrupted the entire running lane "chi" at the indoor track here in Rock Springs. Good stuff!
Secondly, if you haven't listened to the very jazzy "The Way It Is" in Bruce's "Intersections", well, you haven't, how should I put this, you haven't, lived. The intro piano is exquisite and his soul-ful vocals give me reason to pause.
If you'd like to get a taste of this song and others, click here and visit the links under "Songs from the Performance". He was on Talk of the Nation last summer and played an in-studio concert for Lynn Neary. Classic stuff!
I know the lyrics are a bit dated (1986 I think?), but here are a few of my favorite lines from that poignant song that I think hold meaning even 20+ years out:
They say hey little boy you can't go where the others go'cause you don't look like they do
Said hey old man how can you stand to think that way
Did you really think about it before you made the rules?
He said, son that's just the way it is
Some things will never change
That's just the way it is
But don't you believe themHere's to a year of not believing "them" and being that change I want to see in the world...Jazzy Bruce Hornsby style.
P.S. Adam, next post will be for you! Coming soon!

You are not old at all. A guy's 30s is a new 20s and I believe that men who has been taking care of themselves well physically and mentally looks and tastes the best in 40s : ) Seriously. Your best time has yet come to you!

Hi Drew,
Great New Look! And you are Young!
Enjoy!!
Music Great, too!
Hey, Drew,
I was just watching the movie "Bruce Almighty" as you probably know with the original Jim Carey. And the "Bruce Almighty" Hornsby-- enjoyed the music; but some of the lyrics... Have yet to read/hear Cobert's book. I'm sure it's funny.
