Stopping Animal Cruelty in Wyoming

Tomorrow starts Wyoming's 59th legislative session and I'd like to just share a few thoughts on the upcoming session.

My wife and I have recently become interested in the animal cruelty laws in this State as they are quite lax. Follow this link to see where our interest peaked.

Also, click HERE to read Wyoming Statute 6-3-203 in its entirety. The torturing and/or killing of animals is still considered a misdemeanor or high misdemeanor in most cases.

Your voice could make a difference by taking the time to send your legislators a simple email stating that you want to see legislation introduced that would make the penalties stiffer for cruelty against animals. Click here for a sample letter to cut and paste into your email.

Let's send a message to Cheyenne that Wyoming won't stand for anything less than a felony offense the first time around for this type of behavior toward defenseless animals like horses, dogs, cats, and the like.
Here is a run down of local legislators who are sponsoring or co-sponsoring legislation that will strengthen the penalties for abusing and cruelly treating animals Statewide:

Senator John Hastert, Dem-Green River

Representative Stan Blake, Dem-Rock Springs
Representative Bernadine Craft, Dem-Rock Springs
Representative Bill Thompson, Dem-Green River

By clicking on the names of these legislators above, you can send them all emails telling them that you support their attempts to get stronger animal cruelty legislation passed this session.

If you didn't get a chance to read Saturday's Rocket Miner (local paper in Rock Springs), there's a great synopsis of all the local legislators and the issues that are important to them on Page 12B (unfortunately, the Rocket Miner doesn't offer free online access to its articles yet, or I'd put the link here as well).

Happy trails from Rock Springs, and I hope you will contact your legislators to let them know about the issues that matter to you.

Drew
